Thomas N. Rooker Autograph Letter to Ezra Cornell. Three pages, 5” x 8”, on New York Tribune letterhead, New York, October 8, 1869. In this letter Thomas N. Rooker, an editor on Horace Greeley's New York Tribune, writes to Ezra Cornell, enclosing a piece of galley proof describing Dr. Lancelot Hope Everitt's apparatus and the workings of it, to transmit messages by sound over a wire without electricity. The letter also describes a deal with the commissioner of patents to produce photo-lithographical drawings. Rooker begins the letter “Wonders will never cease.” and goes on to describe a wire telegraph system. Cornell would most certainly have been interested in Everitt's design since he had made a fortune in the telegraph business as an associate of Samuel B. Morse and was founder of Western Union. Ezra Cornell also founded the university which bears his name. With the usual fold creases and toning, else very good condition. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
