Famed Irish poet and songwriter (1779–1852) best known for such verses as ‘The Last Rose of Summer’ and ‘Believe Me If All These Endearing Young Charms.’ ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, March 12, no year. In part: “It would give me great pleasure to be of use to you, but my means are too limited to afford what (I fear) you most want, and literature is so precarious a pursuit, that I cannot flatter you with much hopes of assistance through that channel. If you could point out anything in which my application to others could serve you, I shall be happy to do whatever I can for you.” Addressed on the reverse of the second integral page in his own hand. In very good condition, with partial separations to expected mailing folds, a tear to top edge, scattered soiling and toning, and a strip of tape to top edge and repaired paper loss to upper right corner of second integral page.
