Fantastic partly-printed DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as president and “James Madison” as secretary of state, one page, 22 x 17.25, June 12, 1805. Four-language ship's paper issued to "William L. Lavender, master or commander of the Schooner called the John…lying at present in the port of Washington bound for St. Thomas and laden with Scantling Shingles Peas and Tobacco." Prominently signed in the center by President Jefferson and countersigned by Secretary of State Madison. The white paper seal affixed to the left side remains fully intact.
