Partial self-contained partly-printed DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as President and “James Madison” as Secretary of State, one page, 7.75 x 13.5, December 3, 1806. A portion of a four-language ship’s papers (with two languages present) issued to the master and commander of the Richard, “lying at present at the port of New York bound for S. Croix and laden with…Rice–Pork–Rice Beef–fish–flour–Vinegar–Bread–Nails–Raisons–& Lumber.” Crisply signed by Jefferson and Madison. Matted and framed to an overall size of 12 x 18. Document appears to have once been a four-language document and separated and presented in its current format. In good condition, with intersecting folds, mild to moderate soiling and staining, holes and paper separation along the two vertical folds (a few affecting Jefferson’s name), and the bottom half of the document apparently laid atop. A very presentable example of a most desirable combination of presidents with the two signatures bolder than usually encountered.
