Partly-printed DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as president and “James Madison” as secretary of state, one page, 9.5 x 15, December 18, 1806. Scalloped-top ship’s papers issued to the “Schooner Fanny Catherine of New York, John A. Burnham master and commander…mounted with no guns navigated with seven men to pass with her Company Passengers, Goods and Merchandise without any hindrance, seizure or molestation.” Signed at the conclusion by Jefferson and Madison. In very good condition, with handwritten portions of text light, but legible, intersecting folds, one through a single letter of Madison’s signature, and scattered toning and creasing. The white seal is intact, but worn and toned. Such scalloped-top pages, particularly those signed by two presidents, are always desirable.
