<B>Thomas Jefferson Free Franked Cover Signed</B></I> "<I>free Th: Jefferson</B></I>", 5" x 3.25", addressed in another hand to, "<I>Mr. Thomas Sully Baltimore</B></I>". Painter Thomas Sully (1783 - 1872) visited Monticello in March, 1821 to execute the full-length portrait of Thomas Jefferson that currently hangs at West Point. The English-born Sully was staying in Baltimore during this period and it is highly likely that this cover carried a letter regarding the celebrated Jefferson portrait. Address panel only, expected browning, writing on verso visible, uneven edges.
