Irish physician, British Army officer, and author (1857–1893) who was known for his work as a doctor on Henry Morton Stanley's 'Emin Pasha Relief Expedition.' ALS signed “T. H. Parke,” one page, 4.5 x 7, embossed Army Medical Staff letterhead, April 23, 1893. Handwritten letter to English medical journalist Ernest Hart, in full: "These Pygmy Arrows are designed and made, by the Dwarfs, inhabiting the Great Aruwimi Forest Central Africa, first discovered by the 'Emin Pasha Relief Expedition' under Mr. Stanley 1887 '88 '89. The heads are made in a native foundry from crude iron ore. A small leaf is used instead of a feather to direct the arrow in its flight, and it is propelled from a small bow with rattan cane string and can kill at one hundred yards distance. The head is invariably smeared with a deadly poison, description can be found in 'Experiences in Equatorial Africa' by T. H. Parke." In fine condition.
