ALS signed “T. Hardy,” one page, 4.75 x 3, March 11, 1895. Brief letter to Mr. Fisher of "Literary World," in full: "My publisher has been informed of your complaint that a copy of Jude has not been sent." The letter card and its respective cover, which has been addressed in Hardy's hand, are both mounted and framed with a vintage Vanity Fair lithograph of Thomas Hardy by artist Leslie Ward to an overall size of 14 x 22.25. In fine condition, with toning to the mat. Jude the Obscure, Hardy's last completed novel, was first published in book form in 1895. Delving into issues of class, education, religion, morality, and marriage, the novel earned its share of controversy and was deemed by at least one reviewer as 'Jude the Obscene.'
