English soldier and naturalist (1756–1835) who collaborated with John Edward Gray in the publication of Illustrations of Indian Zoology. ALS signed “Tho’s Hardwicke,” one page, 8 x 9.5, December 3, 1824. Letter to Edward Macgrath, secretary of the Athenaeum club. In part: “In my memorandum it had merely occurred to me that I was about to incur a year’s subscription for a month—Having accepted a nomination to the Club—if the members please I am willing of course to be subject to its Rules, & therefore leave the question wholly to Mr. Lambert’s kind feeling toward me.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and toning to edges.
