Silent film star, director, producer, and screenwriter (1882–1924). Highly desirable vintage matte-finish 9.75 x 12 Spurr portrait of Ince, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To John Ellis, Seasons greetings, Thos. H. Ince, 1920.” In fine condition, with some surface marks and scratches, and a spot of staining to blank border, which could be easily matted out. Though his death was announced to be of natural causes, rumors of foul play were widely circulated, with many claiming that William Randolph Hearst accidentally shot and killed Ince during a party on board his yacht. Given Ince’s importance in Hollywood history and unusual early death, his autographic material is both very collectible and extremely rare. Only the third Ince-signed item we have ever offered.
