English biologist (1825-1895) known as ‘Darwin's Bulldog’ for his advocacy of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. ALS signed “T. H. Huxley,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, black-bordered stationery letterhead, June 12, 1844. Huxley accepts a breakfast invitation. In part: “I have forsworn all manners of society just at present, but since you have been so kind…I shall break my rule…& present myself at your breakfast table.” In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical folds, pencil notation and small mounting remnant to first page, small docketing notation in the recipient’s hand to first page, and a vertical mounting remnant along reverse of second integral page.
