Thomas Fairfax, 9th Lord Fairfax of Cameron (1762 - 1846), son of Bryan Fairfax. Thomas Fairfax, with his father, was among the last guests at Mount Vernon, on December 11, 1799, before Washington died. He maintained a winter home at 607 Cameron Street, Alexandria, Virginia, which he built in 1816. Thomas Fairfax was a follower of Swedenborg. Because of these religious beliefs, he manumitted his slaves, taught them a trade, and sent them to Liberia. To John Bruce, Esqr., Academy, Winchester, Va. "Yours of the 22d Inst. Has just come to hand and agreeably to your request I hasten to reply to it. With respect to the Proprietor of the Northern neck in Virginia I have to inform you that he was no ancestor of mine buy only a distant relative. His nearest relations are his nephews of the name of Martin in England brothers of the late Thomas B. Martin of Greenway Court.As I do no feel myself in any way authorized or called upon to interfere in the matter you mention, I must therefore decline suggesting any thing as to the disposition of the plate in question.
