DS, signed “Thos. A. Edison,” one page, 8 x 12.25, January 1, 1894. Annual Report of The Edison Electric Light Company of Europe Limited. In part: “We the undersigned a majority of the directors of the Edison Electric Light Company of Europe Limited a corporation organized under the laws of the State of New York do hereby make the following report." The report then lists four provisions as follows:
“I - The Capital Stock of this Company is Two Million Dollars
II - The proportion of its capital stock actually issued is Two Million Dollars.
III - The existing debts of the Company do not exceed the sum of Thirty Thousand Dollars
IV - The assets of the company at least equal the sum of Fourty Thousand Dollars”
Signed at the conclusion by the majority of directors: "Thos. A. Edison," "Alfred O. Tates" and "W. Perry." In fine condition, with several horizontal storage folds and two light binder ring impressions along bottom.
The Edison Electric Light Company of Europe, Ltd., was incorporated in New York on December 23, 1880, and controlled Edison's electric light patents in Europe, excluding the United Kingdom—essentially creating a monopoly. In 1881, the company paid for an exhibition of Edison’s electric lighting system at the Paris International Electrical Exhibition, much to the excitement of visitors. An interesting early piece of Edison history. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
