ANS, in pencil, signed “TAE,” written at the top of the first page of a four-page letter from his son Charles, in pencil, lightly-lined, 5 x 8, January 10, 1928. Charles Edison writes to his father, in part: “I had hoped to work in a little vacation before you went south, as I did last year, but things have been coming so thick and fast and you were leaving so early that it couldn’t be done…There is something else that I’ve postponed. It’s been several years since I have felt really well. Not that I’ve been sick exactly but…I get all used up so easily. If I’ve had a busy day—and most of them are—by 4 pm I’m tired. That doesn‘t seem right in a young buck like me. It may be that there is nothing to it but the fact the ‘hickory ain’t in the younger generation’…I thought I would combine dentist, Dr., & vacation sometime in March…Of course if things weren’t OK in Orange I wouldn’t go in the beginning. Do you think this is a pretty good scheme?” At the top of the first page, Edison writes: “Yes, good thing to do.” In very good condition, with moderate uniform toning to all pages, old paperclip to top edge, and a few tears to edges. Fascinating insight into the tight ship Edison ran at his company, even with regards to his own family.
