ANS, in pencil, signed “Eds,” one page, 8.5 x 11, no date. Brief note, in pencil, at the top of a TLS to Edison from employee P. J. Burns, dated July 23, 1923. Burns’s letter is a request for two weeks vacation that summer, and reads, in part: “I have had only one week of vacation since 1920, and if it meets with your approval, I should like to rest up for two weeks this Summer…The routine work in my office…could be taken care of by Mr. Skinner. He is a young man who was with the Musical Phonograph Division…he is familiar with our product and policies.” At the top of the letter Edison writes: “Bring Skinner up let me see him. I think you can go. I myself leave on Aug 1 for 3 weeks.” Reverse of letter bears pencil notations and a sketch in an unknown hand. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, a few edge chips, and scattered soiling.
