TLS signed “Thos. A. Edison,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Thomas A. Edison Laboratory letterhead, October 17, 1924. Letter to the secretary of the National Museum of Engineering and Industry H. F. J. Porter, accepting an appointment. In full, “Your letter of August 15th was received during my absence on a vacation trip, and by mischance was mislaid until now. I appreciate the honor of being proposed as Vice-President of your Corporation, and take pleasure in hereby advising you of my acceptance. I understand that this is an honorary position, without duties or responsibilities.” Nicely signed at the conclusion with Edison’s “umbrella” signature. In fine condition, with staple holes at top edge, intersecting mailing folds, one through a single letter of signature, and tape mounting remnants along top edge of reverse. Porter and his partner Carl Mitman attempted to establish a National Museum of Engineering and Industry as part of the Smithsonian Institute.
