Edison Botanic Research Corporation business check, 8.5 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Edison, "Thos. A. Edison," payable to the Smithsonian Institution for $600, October 20, 1937. The memo field notes: "Additional Capital Advance for Dr. J. N. Rose." In very good to fine condition, with paper loss to the lower right side. Joseph Nelson Rose was a noted botanist and assistant curator at the Smithsonian, whom Edison had hired to collect plants in Texas and Mexico in a search for something to produce latex and provide America with a domestic source of rubber.
