Thomas Edison Laboratory 1881 Dated Note Book Thomas Edison Laboratory 1881 Dated Notebook [I]Lamp M
Thomas Edison Laboratory 1881 Dated Notebook Lamp Manufacturing. A manuscript 8vo (5.75" x 8.25") book with marbled boards, 140 numbered pages (not all used) with a label on the front printed "From the Laboratory of T. A. Edison. Menlo Park, N.J. No, 144" with "Lamp Manufacturing" and "E. G. Acheson. May 12, 1881" handwritten. Acheson was a promising young inventor who worked for Edison in the early 1880s; his job was to experiment on making a conducting carbon that Edison could use in making his light bulbs. Later, as an independent, Acheson discovered a powerful abrasive, silicon carbide calling it Caborundum; he later developed a process to make very pure graphite. This lab book is full of formulas, problems, charts, and detailed drawings and is fascinating to read through. There are a few words and notes that are in Edison's own handwriting. Front cover separated, generally worn, but still an incredible piece of history.
