Thomas Edison Autograph Note Signed. Signed: Edison, one page, 5" x 8", np, nd. Written to William Hardy. Edison asks Hardy for some patent information: "Hardy Please inform me if patent can be taken out in Malaya Ceylon Java Sumatra.". On the verso, in Hardy's hand: "Replied to by me on June 27m 1916 W.G.H.". The places named by Edison indicate that this message relates to rubber production, various aspects of which he was interested in for a number of years. Given the date, it may have to do with the chlorination process for rubber. An interesting look at Edison's strong interest in patenting his work (resulting in well over 1,000 patents during his lifetime). In fine condition; paper has slightly yellowed over time.
