<B> Thomas E.G. Ransom ALS </B></I> <I> "T.E.G. Ransom, Brig. Gen. Vols." </B></I> Three pages, 7.75" x 9.75", Head Quarters, Post of Natchez, August 28th, 1863. This letter was written by Ransom concerning his fear about a fellow officer, it reads in part, <I> "…his men and officers can not be trusted in the country alone. They pillage and plunder and destroy beyond any men I have ever commanded and will not follow or obey my orders in this respect…the officers…seem to gave a very poor appreciation of this rights of citizens -non combatants - and very little respect for private property…" </B></I> Ransom was a Major General in the Union Army, and was highly praised by all of his superiors. Ulysses S. Grant said of him, "He has always proved himself the best man I have ever had to send on expeditions." <r The letter is in very fine condition; usual folds are present; signature is bold and dark.
