Founder of a family of celebrated American pewterers (1703–1786) who opened a pewterer's and brazier's shop in Norwich, Connecticut, in 1733, where he crafted a wide variety of tableware of excellent form, quality, and workmanship. Manuscript DS, one page, 8.25 x 13, June 8, 1730. Promissory note in which Danforth agrees to pay “the full and Just sum of fiftey foure Pounds and ten Shillings in good Currant Money of New England to be Paid to the said George Cornell.” Signed at the conclusion by Danforth and countersigned by two witnesses. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), some small separations along fold, chipping to edges, and stains to the center.
