Two items: a first edition of Little Big Man, published by The Dial Press of New York in 1964, hardcover with dust jacket, 6 x 8.5, 440 pages, signed and inscribed on the book’s half-title page in black ink, “To Matthew Stiller, with every good wishes in this thirtieth birthday year of Little Big Man! Thomas Berger, 26 May 1994”; and a TLS, signed “Thomas Berger,” one page, 6 x 9, personal letterhead, January 23, 1998, in part: “Thanks for the kind words about Suspects. I too assumed it was my last book until I remembered that thirty-four years ago, on finishing Little Big Man, I had thought about doing a sequel, covering the notable Western events I had not included in the first book, owing to its finale in the summer of 1876. I had even mentioned, in the epilogue, that it was a pity Jack Crabb hadn’t lived to tell all his story. Well, a lot of manuscripts of his has been found! The Return of Little Big Man is this morning at p. 500. I hope to complete the book in a month or so. If all is on schedule, it should be published in the spring of 1999.” In overall fine condition, with some rubbing to the dust jacket.
