This wicked and unholy Rebellion.... Two letters from soldier George Williams, Martinsburgh, Virginia, Jan. 12 and 19, 1864, to his sister Lill in Morrisville, Huron County, Ohio, 7 pp. in all, in ink. Writing of sad news received from home, of family illness and death, and camp news about fellow soldiers. "...Quite a number of the Regt. sick. They have a very good place to stay. We have a hospital in camp so our Doctors can take care of our own sick...Eugene is sick too...quite an addition to our force here besides Gen. Averell Brigade. There are two Pennsylvania Regts...We have not heard anything more of the Rebles. They have probably gone back to the large Army...." Recounts going to Church without a pass, and being put in the guard house because of it. "All the military operations are suspended for the winter. You need not think I am going to enlist again...." A bit light. With postmarked envelope bearing Jan. 19 date, typed transcript of both letters, and 8 x 10 photocopy of photo of soldier Williams. Ex-Mary Benjamin.
