Theodosius II, A.D. 402-450.
Theodosius II, A.D. 402-450.<p>AV solidus minted at Constantinople, A.D. 425 (January-October). Helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding spear and shield/Theodosius II enthroned; to right, Valentinian III standing, both facing and wearing consular robes. 4.44 g. RIC 234 [as Rare], Hahn 22. AU58 ICG.This coin commemorates the joint consulship of Theodosius and his young cousin, Placidius Valentinianus, in A.D. 425. It is worthwhile to note that on the reverse Valentinian is not crowned, alluding to the fact that he was not yet possessor of the Western throne. This coin is quite rare, a short-lived variety.
