<B>Theodoric Bland Historic Autograph Letter Signed,</B></I> 1 p. 6.6" x 8.5", Philadelphia, April 11, 1783, to Brigadier General George Weedon in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Bland was then a member of the Continental Congress. Bland pens, in full: "<I>Dr. Sir I have just time to tell you that an official information of the notification of the Prelimenaries between the French Spanish & English converts arrived here yesterday, and I believe a cessation of hostilities will be this day proclaimed by order of Congress - the Public Prints will soon give you the rest. Adieu God Bless you Theodrc. Bland</B></I>" <BR><BR>The Battle of Yorktown - the final battle of the Revolutionary War - was won by the Continentals on October 19, 1781. However, the war was not officially over until Congress proclaimed an end to hostilities on April 11, 1783, the very day of the present letter from Bland. The Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783 and ratified by Congress on January 14, 1784; after such a long and bloody struggle, the colonies were officially independent and sovereign. Overall condition is near fine and includes the integral address sheet filled in Bland's hand. <BR><BR>The lot includes a second ALS from Bland to Weedon, 1p., 7.5" x 9", "<I>Prince Town</B></I>", August, 1783, discussing the "<I>settlement of accounts</B></I>" for Weedon's troops. Bland also writes that "<I>no definitive treaty</B></I> has <I> yet arrived</B></I>" and that " <I>we expect our great & good general</B></I> Washington <I>here in a few days</B></I>".
