TLS, one page, 6.5 x 8, The Outlook letterhead, June 30, 1911. Letter to Archibald Gracie mentioning his upcoming book The Truth about Chickamauga. In full: “I am distressed to learn that those two pictures were not sent back to you. I cannot quite understand it. I have not the pictures now. I can only account for the failure to return them to you in September 1908 by the fact that my secretary was probably at the time deluged with letters. [next six words added in Roosevelt’s hand] I have forgotten the entire incident. I am greatly interested in your history of Chickamauga. I shall read [Roosevelt has crossed out “with the utmost interest,” and has handwritten the next two words] at once chapter three which you enclose. Now will you stop at Sagamore Hill and take lunch with us, with your daughter, on your motor trip to Greenport? Do not make it a Tuesday or Friday, as on those days I am in town, and do give me a little warning because sometimes I am under great pressure of engagements.” In very good condition, with several professionally repaired edge tears, scattered toning and soiling, and some mild foxing.
