TLS, one page, 7.75 x 9.25, personal letterhead, March 19, 1915. Letter to judge William L. Ransom. In part: “I entirely agree with what you say about the Municipal Courts and with the special professional and personal qualifications of Michael Schaap for appointment as Magistrate. As Assemblyman, Police Commissioner, Governor and private citizen, I have been brought into peculiarly close contact with the problems presented in the work of these courts; and I have also seen much of Schaap on rather intimate terms. I know a number of men who would make good magistrates; but if at the moment I were asked to state among all the men I know the one best fitted to be such a Magistrate, I would name Michael Schaap.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered creases, the typed text a couple shades light, and moderate spreading to signature. Schaap had joined Roosevelt's ‘Bull Moose’ Party in 1912 and was Progressive Party floor leader in the 1913 and 1914 sessions of the New York legislature.
