ALS, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, October 1, 1908. Letter to E. A. Drake of the Business Men’s Republican Association. In part: “About the parade, I certainly would not advise you to undertake it unless you are sure you can make a great success of it, and with the Chairman of the County Committee and others against it, I should feel very doubtful about it despite my confidence in Mr. Sherrill. Do not under any circumstances go into it unless you are positive you can make it a great success. Otherwise very real damage might be done. Personally, I should very gravely doubt the wisdom of your undertaking it…It is too ticklish of a thing to take chances on.” Central vertical and horizontal folds (one vertical fold passing between two letters of the signature) and some mild soiling, otherwise fine condition.
