Signed book: Big Game Hunting in the Rockies and on the Great Plains. Limited edition of 1000 copies (This being No. 164). NY: G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 1899. Rebound hardcover, 8.5 x 11.25, 323 plus 476 pages. Boldly signed under the frontispiece gravure photo, which features him in his Rough Rider uniform; the signature is further authenticated by the printed tissue guard, which notes that the photo is “signed in autograph.” In very good to fine condition, professionally rebound many years ago as mentioned above, with some mild toning and light edge rippling to signed page, mild toning to other fore-edges and top edges, some chips and paper loss to last two blank pages, and some light wear, rubbing, and trivial edge loss to covers. The book, a combined edition of two of Roosevelt’s earlier volumes on hunting, is illustrated throughout with original etchings and engravings by such notable artists of the day as Frederic Remington, A. B. Frost, and others. A superb example of Roosevelt in his most desirable pose!.
