Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 15 x 20, March 22, 1902. President Roosevelt appoints Ivan C. Wettengel to the rank of “Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy.” Signed at the conclusion by Roosevelt, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy James Long. Document is mounted and double matted and framed to an overall size of 22 x 28. In fine, clean condition, with some scattered light wrinkling and creasing, as well as some mild toning and foxing to upper portion of document. Wettengel received the Navy Cross for his command of the USS Wisconsin during World War I, and later served as Guam’s 25th naval governor from 1920-21, and a number of locations on Guam are named in Wettengel's honor.
