<B>Theodore Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed</B></I> "<I>T. Roosevelt</B></I>", one page, 7.5" x 8.75", Navy Department stationery, Washington, D.C., April 5, 1898. This letter was written to a Mr. James Eglington Montgomery in Rhinebeck, New York. It thanks him for a cordial letter that he had sent to Roosevelt. It reads in full: "My dear Sir:- Many thanks for your patriotic letter. In the event of hostilities I will give it careful consideration. I thank you for your kind words about myself. Very sincerely yours". At the time this was written Roosevelt was serving as assistant secretary of the navy. This letter is framed alongside a natural color print of Roosevelt, and a small metal plaque bearing his biographical data. The overall size of the framed piece is 26" x 23", the maroon matting is offset by the dark red of the wood. Overall the piece is in very fine condition; some slight paint has stained the upper portions of the frame. The document itself is in fine condition; usual folds are present; toning visible on left edge of the letter; signature has slightly faded.
