<B>Theodore Roosevelt Typed Document Signed as Assistant Secretary of the Navy</B></I> “<I>T. Roosevelt</B></I>”. 3.5” x 6.5”, on Navy Department letterhead, May 3, 1897, toned with old fold creases, one small streak under the “o” in Roosevelt, else near fine. Signed items from Roosevelt’s brief service as Assistant Secretary of the Navy are uncommon. He resigned his post at the start of the Spanish-American War in 1898 to organize the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry. The document on offer is a request by Marine Captain F. H.
