Austrian-born psychoanalyst (1888–1969) who studied with Freud and became best known for his research into the psychiatric aspects of masochism, criminology, literature, and religion. Two items: 1962 ALS on National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis Inc. letterhead sending thanks and responding to a collector’s request. In full: “I regret very much that I have no picture of myself now. Please content yourself with this autograph and the one enclosed.”; and a large ink signature, “Theodor Reik, New York, May 11, 1962,” on an off-white 7 x 2.25 slip (evidently originally enclosed with the letter). Staple holes along the right side of both items, light wrinkling to the letter, and Reik crossing out the letterhead name, otherwise fine condition.
