Austrian-born psychoanalyst (1888–1969) who studied with Freud and became best known for his research into the psychiatric aspects of masochism, criminology, literature, and religion. Two items: 1959 ALS on personal letterhead sending thanks and responding to a collector’s request; and a large ballpoint signature, “Theodor Reik, New York, May 26, 1959,” on an off-white 8.5 x 2.25 slip (evidently originally enclosed with the letter). Folds to each item (lightly touching signatures), and light wrinkling and area of toning to blank portion of letter, otherwise fine condition.
