The only original known Confederate D guard Bowie knife marked “Thomas Griswold, New Orleans” refer page 242 of “ The Bowie Knife” book by Norm Flayderman and formally in this iconic author’s and expert’s personal collection. The Bowie measures 14” overall with 8 ½” blade showing a dark brown patina, some sharpening to the edge, some pitting and normal aging. The guard and knife are completely un-cleaned and the hardwood grip is in good condition with some minor scratches and the knife shows a pewter ferrule. Pictured in a full page in color with Louisiana state seal and artifacts in Mr. Flayderman definitive book as he felt that this knife is extremely important because it was not made from a cut down sword but actually made as a knife and marked by this important confederate maker.
