The following three lots were purchased by a collector from an African American lady in Jackson, Mississippi, who stated the following three relic muskets had been in her family since the civil war. She did not know or remember the family member’s names as she was 83 years old in 1979. 1861 contract .58 caliber rifled musket by Briedsburg shortened to 44” overall with 27-3/7” barrel, bored smooth, rear sight removed, heavy brown patina finish, light to moderate scattered erosion and pitting, some slightly heavier pitting on the rear of the lock, barely visible markings, stock fair with many small losses, chips, reduction to comb, and general hard use. The ram rod has been shortened and used with this now carbine. Some large splinters of wood missing from the forend. The action is fairly crisp and working. Untouched and uncleaned as found in 1979. Est.: $400-$800
