The battles are so continuous now.... Group of four A.Ls.S., each signed "H.A.W.," and one T.L.S., signed "H.A. Wallace," May and June 1933, to his friend Charles Roos, 11 pp. in all, on various letterheads, including "The Secretary of Agriculture." "It may interest you to know that I was in the President's office this afternoon when he signed the bill knocking out the gold clause of government bonds. He looked up at the clock and put down 4:40 P.M. June 5, 1933 and signed his name...The battles are so continuous now that I don't worry about them...The racketeers and underworld are going to get into the game with devious tricks...This is a deadly life for the soul...George Peck and I fought our battle of ideas before the President and four members of the Cabinet...Dream for the true life of America...." With copy of typed letter, June 27, 1933, to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Collier, hoping to gain employment for his friend Roos with Collier. All very fine.
