All books include a bookplate affixed inside the front cover and a congressman's red-ink stamp on the front endpaper. Overall very good to near fine with minor wear and toning.<BR><BR>John Clement Fitzpatrick (1876-1940), who served as Assistant Chief of the Manuscripts Division at the Library of Congress, tackled the monumental task of editing this comprehensive thirty-nine volume edition of <I>The Writings of George Washington</B></I>. In total, volumes 1-37 include 17,400 letters and documents either written by or on behalf of Washington. Letters written to Washington are mentioned in the notes only.
