The Wrights had a bad case of ego.... C
The Wrights had a bad case of ego.... Charles Willard, an Early Bird pilot, U.S. Aviator #4, discussion in a 2-pp. A.L.S. on early aviation, referring to the Wright Brothers, Curtiss, Montgomery, Langley, and Charles Manly. "...The Wrights had a bad case of ego. They never built a plane following their patent...and their patent was limited to flat wings. It is my view that every plane they built infringed on J.J. Montgomery's patent...The Wrights were nasty egots and tried to sue everybody who flew. The planes they built up to 1910 could not fly off the ground by their own power...The Curtiss flyers were receiving all the publicity in 1909 and 1910 forcing the Wrights to put wheels under their planes...." And more, mentioning patents in 1868 and 1884 used by the growing activity in airplane construction. Outstanding content. With Early Bird envelope signed by Willard. Also with A.L.S. of John Whitely, on Army air maneuvers in 1923, with his signed portrait; an unidentified signature of an Early Bird aviator; and T.L.S. of George C. Kindley, 1929, to Clayton Bissel, aviation pioneer, discussing death of his son, Field E. Kindley, U.S. Ace in World War I. V.F. Request detailed list.
