When Scotland Yard suspects a cinema owner of collaborating with a band of saboteurs, they dispatch an undercover agent to gather information from the cover of a neighboring store. The cinema owner, Karl Verloc, has a family as his cover -- a wife and her younger brother, teenager Stevie. The head of the gang assigns Karl the mission of delivering the bomb to its target. Karl, aware of the government's attention, sends the package with Stevie, who has no idea what he's carrying, so when he gets delayed... The way Hitchcock chose to end this sequence attracted derision from some critics, and even HItchcock expressed regret, but he remained faithful to Joseph Conrad's source novel. This title card looks pristine, the result of minor restoration that repaired pinhole damage and slightly torn edges. Fine-.
