The Woman Alone (Gaumont British, 1937). Lobby Cards (2) (11" X 14"). Oscar Homolka was perfectly cast as a London saboteur masquerading as a theater owner. Homolka, a graduate of the Royal Dramatic Academy in Vienna, played foreign heavies for most of his Hollywood career, which included a Best Supporting Actor nomination for "I Remember Mama." In Alfred Hitchcock's film -- one of his early, underrated works -- Homolka is allowed some ambiguity in character, even when sending his brother-in-law into possible martyrdom. These two lobby cards display very well, especially the portrait of all three main actors, eyeing each other with hostile distrust. That card has three light crease marks along the left side, crease marks in each of the right side's corners and a tear at the top edge. In addition a snipe has apparently been removed from the title (probably with the US title, "I Married a Murderer"), and the letters have been repainted. The other card has water marks and scuffs in the top border, with speckled stains in the left border. Very Good+.
