Brilliant vintage glossy 10 x 8 outtake photo of The Who by famed British photographer Harry Goodwin, showing the band in 1971 posing together in a dressing room, signed in black felt tip by Keith Moon, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, and John Entwistle. Reverse bears a "H. Goodwin" photography stamp. In fine to very fine condition. This incredible photo is an outtake from Goodwin’s photo session with The Who in their dressing room at the BBC Television Studios on December 30, 1971. The band were there to film and record ‘I Don’t Even Know Myself’ and ‘Naked Eye’ for the TV special ‘Into 71.’ Goodwin was the resident photographer for the BBC Television programme ‘Top of the Pops’ since its inception in 1964 until 1973, and several of his prints are in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Accompanied by an article about the original recipient of the signed photograph, Alex Brown, a piano tuner for the BBC for over 40 years, who has tuned for musicians such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Liberace, Jools Holland, Duke Ellington, and Paul McCartney; among his career highlights, Brown tuned the piano for Elton John at Princess Diana's funeral. Included is a letter of provenance from Brown, who notes that he “first met The Who at the BBC studios on (sic) December 1971, when the photograph was actually taken by Harry Goodwin.” He then got the band to sign the photograph in 1973, when they recorded some music tracks at the BBC Television Centre. Fully signed photos of The Who from the 1970s are extraordinarily rare, with this example certainly one of the nicest that we have ever seen or offered.
