Scarce The Who By Numbers album signed on the back cover in blue ballpoint by Pete Townshend, and in black ballpoint by Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey, and John Entwistle. In fine condition, with light toning to left edge and red spot of discoloration to front (in no way affecting the signatures). The record is included. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient, reading, in part: “I was in the music business at the time, as a managing partner in four music stores in Colorado and Wyoming. I was invited backstage at the Who’s concert to meet them as part of MCA’s ongoing effort to maintain good relationships with regional stores selling their product…I succeeded in my effort to get every member to sign the album. Keith Moon was fairly ‘altered’ by that time, but signed anyway. The rest of the guys were cordial and cooperative. Obviously, I was a little starstruck, because I got the back signed instead of the front.” Obtained following a concert at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver on March 30, 1976, fully signed The Who albums from this period remain exceptionally rare, with this example serving as one of the most appealing we have encountered. HIghlighted by the elusive Keith Moon, who would pass away two years later from a drug overdose, this record is further enhanced by its wonderfully fresh appearance and brilliant signatures.
