ALICE STONE BLACKWELL (1857-1950). A suffragette leader, Blackwell's parents had once been bitter rivals of Susan B. Anthony and formed their own association. In 1892, they all merged into the National-American Woman's Suffrage Association. DS. 1pp. 10 1/4" x 5 1/4". Boston. October 31,. 1910. A stock certificate signed "Alice Stone Blackwell" in bright blue ink. The corporation was "The Proprietors of the Woman's Journal" with shares costing fifty dollars each. This share states in part: "…Be it known, That Zilpha D. Smith is the Proprietor of one share in the Corporation known as The Proprietors of the Woman's Journal…". There is a receipt attached to the left margin and the overall condition is excellent with dark ink and white paper. An unusual piece of women's history.
