Vittorio Alfieri (1749-1803) was an Italian dramatist and is considered the founder of Italian tragedy. Charles Lloyd (1775-1839) was a poet and writer and a friend of both Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Charles Lamb. In 1811, he started exhibiting signs of mental instability with pronounced epileptic attacks. It is said that he undertook the Alfieri translations as a means of diverting his mind from these problems. Very good condition with tight text blocks and strong (but somewhat rubbed) hinges, some corner bumps. A nice set.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
