The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Bryanston, 1974). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14"). Leatherface, the chainsaw-wielding monster at the center of this indie phenomenon, was inspired by Ed Gein, the Wisconsin serial killer. Norman Bates of "Psycho" can also claim Gein as an antecedent. Since the box-office success of Leatherface and Bates basically established the horror subgenre of the slasher film, more fake blood has spilled on account of Gein than real blood, a boast that maybe only Al Capone and Pontius Pilate can make. This rare lobby card set is utterly flawless, save for a small scratch on card seven. Any fan of landmark horror films or deadly hardware must own this paean to senseless death. Near Mint+.
