<B>The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (RKO, 1947).</B></I> One Sheet (27" X 41"). James Thurber wasn't too happy with the Sam Goldwyn film adaptation of his 1939 short story, but the Technicolor musical comedy proved to be a cash cow at the box office. Danny Kaye stars as Walter, a milquetoast proofreader who is constitutionally incapable of standing up for himself, which is why his mother (Fay Bainter) has been able to arrange a frightful marriage between her son and the beautiful but overbearing Gertrude Griswold (Anne Rutherford). Daydreaming his way through life, he's half convinced that a gorgeous woman (Virginia Mayo) who really is being pursued by a gang of jewel thieves headed by Dr. Hugo Hollingshead (Boris Karloff) is just part of his fantasy. Kaye considered this his best screen performance, as do many critics. The poster has been mounted on linen and has virtually no restoration touch up. <I>From the collection of Jim Ashton</B></I>.
