This is a Victorian era officer's 1869 pattern shako of the Queen's Own Light Infantry. The body is composed of a dark green felt with 1 strip of gold lace around the lower edge, 2 strips around the upper edge and a strip connecting the lower strip to the bottom upper strip at each ear. The peak is black leather. The front plate has a gilt Victorian crown over a horn inside a circle marked "THE QUEEN'S OWN LIGHT INFANTRY" which is on a silvered rayed star with a Victorian crown at the top. A black woolen pompon is extending out of the top above the plate with a "VR" cypher on the silvered boss. The silvered flower ear bosses suspend a silvered velvet backed chin chain. The front peak is lined with green leather, the sweat band is natural color leather and there is a purple silk lining with "JONES & Co." label. With "JONES & Co." storage tin.

Condition: Very good, the body and top show some minor wear. The gold lace has aged. The silvered components have a dark aged patina. The gilt components have a bright appearance overall. The lining is stained and deteriorating. The sweat band has a tear. The storage tin is very good with some dents, scratches and light oxidation.
