The Producers (MGM, 1968). One Sheet (27" X 41"). "Don't be a dummy, be a smarty. Come and join the Nazi party." "Will the dancing Hitlers please wait in the wing? We are only seeing singing Hitlers." Before Mel Brooks unleashed his manic comedy on the world, who could have imagined "a gay romp with Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden?" Down and out theatrical producer Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) conspires with his new accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder, in only his second film), to get backers to invest in a play that is a guaranteed flop, so they can keep all the extra money. The play, "Springtime for Hitler," opens with perhaps the best/worst/most politically incorrect production number in the history of film, that leaves the audience in a dumbfounded silence. This one sheet has edge wear with minor fold wear. At the time of the release of this film, Dick Shawn was a bigger star than Gene Wilder, which could explain why Wilder doesn't show up on this poster. An Oscar nomination for "The Producers" would soon change things for him. Fine+.
