<B>Confederate Surgeon Major Samuel Houston Caldwell's Copy of <I>Father Ryan's Poems.</B></I></B></I> Abram Ryan was known as the "Poet of the Confederacy," publishing moving works that inspired many troops before they went into battle and consoling them afterward. This copy of the 1896 edition of <I>Father Ryan's Poems</B></I> was published by P. J. Kennedy of New York and Philadelphia. It was owned by Confederate Surgeon Samuel Houston Caldwell of Paris, Tennessee. He served with General Nathan Bedford Forrest as a battlefield surgeon and returned to his medical practice in Paris after the war, remaining active in Confederate reunions and collecting books about the war. <BR><BR>This 360-page work is in excellent condition with gold stamping on the cover and binding.
